Unformed thoughts
stream slowly from the soul
as one looks down
a promenade brought to life —
the shimmer of blue water;
the smiles worn by strangers;
a flock of animated seagulls,
sharing morsels strewn across;
a group of spirited students,
collaborating over homework.

Flags of many kinds on sturdy poles,
fluttered by the breeze’s gentle caress;
glares from the facades and windows
of shiny towers & brick townhouses
across the water on the other side —
splattered on over the blue,
broken into a million pieces;
the shadows of people and poles,
stretched long and thin by the
oblique light from the horizon.

Walkway paved by cobblestone tiles,
held together by the green moss
peeking out around the edges —
breathing for the first time, perhaps,
after the winter’s brutal blow;
tiny bits of many conversations
picked up from people walking by —
a story with a multitude of characters,
all strangers walking under the sun,
held together by the season’s first warm rays.

Sun-blissed and alive — winter’s on its way out.
